Example of an annotated bibliography.Annotated bibliographies are a collection of annotations, or short descriptions, about information sources.  As students, annotated bibliographies can be helpful in keeping track of sources for a longer paper or for showing that you actually have done research.  Professionally, annotated bibliographies are published to help researchers get a handle on what has been published in a given field.  For example, here is a link to a published annotated bibliography on the Spanish-American War and military actions in the Philippines.

To the right is a page image from an annotated bibliography so you can see what one should look like.  Below is a handout that should help you put together annotations and below that is a good explanation of descriptive and critical/evaluative annotated bibliographies.
