Clipchamp - Absolute beginner's introduction

What is Clipchamp?

Clipchamp is an entry-level video-editing application that was purchased by Microsoft as a replacement for their old beginner-level video application called MovieMaker.  It is a standard part of the Windows 11 package and is also available as a web application.  In both cases, there is a free-to-use version and a premium version.  There is also a version available through the Apple App store.  This set of introductory videos is for users who are absolutely new to video creation, with students in mind.  In he videos below, we walk through putting together a very basic video using the application, covering the following:

  • Accessing Clipchamp
  • The various different parts and functions of screens
  • Making and using clips
  • Adding transitions, music, and beginning and end titles

By the way, the following videos were edited using Clipchamp (for what that's worth).

If you have access to iMovie, here is a link to a tutorial from 2021: https://youtu.be/4WlXYrStaIY

Finished video

The tutorial videos walk through creating a short bodyboarding video.  Below is the finished product to watch before looking at the process behind it.  Note, I changed the final title to more accurately reflect the sport. LOL...I grew up bodyboarding...I do know the difference ;-)

Adding and editing content

Below is a video on adding content to the timeline (the area where we put the video together), introducing the concepts of trimming video clips and using "in" and "out" points to control length.

Below is a video previewing a project and a demonstration of repeating a clip.

Below is a video on adding transitions and a music track in Clipchamp.

Below is a video on adding title and exporting a finished project.  This one is a bit longer...just a heads up.
