Linking to library resources in Moodle

Why link to sources?

We are asking faculty to link to resources found in library databases (e.g., ProQuest, Ebsco, JSTOR), rather than uploading a pdf to Moodle in order to provide a more accurate count of how heavily resources are being used.

This usage data will help us ensure that we are being good stewards of our funds. It will also provide us with data to support requests for additional material funds in the future.

We realize that this may initially be an inconvenience, as you shift your tried-and-true Moodle processes -- and that you may get some push back from students. However, we hope that you will be willing to give it a try. If you have any questions, please contact your subject librarian for additional help.

Permalinks

permalink is a permanent link. In other words, it is a URL that points to an article or other online resource, allowing the reader to go right to it without re-creating a search in a database. This permalink will remain stable, where as the URL in the address bar may be dynamically generated and unstable.

In order to avoid broken links in your Moodle site, it is best to use permalinks when available. The pages on the guide provide step-by-step instructions for locating the best possible links or permalinks in our key databases.
