Research Quest

The Quest

Your Research Quest

One way to think about the research process is to think of it like a quest, a journey you take to find something.  So for this sequence, we’re going to set up the learning steps as if you were a Knight of the Round Table going on a quest for the Holy Grail—in this case the Grail is reliable and timely information.  And we are going to tweak history a bit and assume that women can also be knights...the universe is at least semi-enlightened.

What follows is a little "game" that will test your courage, your wits, and walk you through important aspects of the research process, so strap on your boots and get ready for adventure and high drama with the knowledge that no actual dragons were harmed during the making of this game.

Before watching the videos, complete the pre-quiz below.  Do not worry if you do not know an answer.  Just take a guess.  This pre-quiz is to help you and us gauge your learning about research and the tools available to you through the library website and online.

Download the handout packet for these sessions.  You will need them to complete the activities during each session.

NOTE: The packet does have a number of pages so you may want to download a copy to fill out electronically.

These handouts have been designed for you to give you practical application of strategies and tools we talk about and can make your research process a bit easier.  Please feel free to use them for other classes you may have.  They were designed to be useful for all kinds of research assignments in all kinds of classes.

Below is a blank mind-mapping/cluster sheet on one side, while on the other side is an example.
