What is on the Saint Search results screens?

Understanding Search Results, Brief Results

0: The active search query.
1: The title of the item (first line) and the publisher and creation date (second line). Select the title to display more details about the item.
2: The “Tweak my results” section. This section allows you to narrow the search results by selecting various filters. For example, you can narrow results by Availability, Format, Subject, and Language.
3: The resource type of the item.
4: The availability status of the item. Select the availability status to display more details.
5: The total results of the search query. To narrow and refine your results, either adjust your search strategies or apply filters in the “Tweak my results” section.
6: A warning message to indicate you are not signed into your Saint Martin’s University account. Ensure that you sign in to unlock all of the available features. You can sign-in using your Saint Martin’s student, faculty, or staff account.
7: Quick link icons:

  • Quotation marks: cite this article icon. You can choose from various style guides (MLA 8th edition, APA 6th edition, etc.) to generate a citation for this specific search result. Always review the generated citation for accuracy and correct formatting before using it.
  • Envelope icon: Email this item record through Saint Search to a specific email account.
  • Pin icon: Allows you to save this item record to your My Favorites account section. If you are not signed in, all items saved to your My Favorites section will be lost after you end the session. To ensure your saved items are available between sessions, always sign into your account.
  • Ellipsis: Displays all other available action items.

 

Full Display

Understanding Search Results, Full Display

After selecting an item from the Brief Results page, the records Full Display information is opened.

1: The title of the item (first line) and the publisher and creation date (second line).
2: Item navigation menu. The Full Display window for the item is organized into the following sections:

  • Send To: available actions include the following: email item details; create a citation; print, send to reference management service; and create a permalink.
  • Search Inside: for journals specifically – this section allows for you to search for articles within a certain journal by article title or keyword.
  • Get It: allows you to find the location of the item (physical or online), place the item on hold if it is a physical item, or find the appropriate web portal.
  • Details: lists the bibliographic details of the item, including LCSH, PCI, and MESH details.
  • Virtual Browse: this section allows you to view items that are similar or next to the item on the shelf.
  • Links: allows the user to view additional links associated with the item. In most cases, the primary link provided will be to the items source bibliographic record.
