CASE Act (2019)

The Copyright Alternative in Small-Claims Enforcement Act of 2019 (CASE Act) was passed in 2019 to provide a forum for copyright owners to sue for "smaller" damages than larger federal cases deal with (here is link to a short description of the act from Harvard Law School, including a link to the law's text).  It is supposed to be a streamlined way for copyright holders to protect their work(s) and was passed as part of a COVID-19 relief package.  It is expected that the Copyright Claims Board, created by the act, will probably be used mostly for perceived violations in digital environments.  Potentially this could affect students academics.  The Association of Research Libraries has created a toolkit to help us understand the complexities of this law.
