Requesting an item through interlibrary loan (ILL)

Requesting an item through interlibrary loan (ILL)

After you have found an item that you cannot access through the Library’s holdings, you can request access to print and digital materials through Summit or ILL (WorldCat).

Things to remember before starting:

  • You must be signed into your Saint Martin’s account to request items through either interlibrary loan option.
  • To request access to an online article, follow the same processes outlined below for physical item ILL requests.

How to Guide:

  1. Locate the item that you would to request through interlibrary loan, and select the “Check Summit and ILL availability” link below the item title and publication details.
  2. In the pop-up detailed item page, locate the “How to get it” menu, and select the interlibrary loan option you wish to request the item through.
    1. It is highly recommended for physical objects that you make your request through Summit. The O’Grady Library has a well-defined and robust lending partnership with the other Summit libraries to facilitate easy and expedient access to ILL requests for our patrons.
  3. For Summit requests, input a comment in the “Comment” line if necessary (this is not required) and select the “Send Request” button.
  4. For ILL requests, select the “Request via Interlibrary Loan (books+)” button and you will be navigated to the WorldCat ILL site in another window.
  5. Review the item details for accuracy, and scroll to the bottom of the page once completed.
    1. In almost all instances, you will not input or change any of these details.
  6. Select the “Submit request” button.
    1. If you would like to view your requests through WorldCat ILL, select the “My account” button in the top right corner of the webpage.
    2. In the drop-down menu, select “Requests”.
    3. You will be taken to the requests page where you can review your ILL requests in the center box.

What is Summit?

Summit interlibrary loan requests

This refers to physical items (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) that we can borrow from our partner libraries in the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a consortium of approximately 38 academic libraries in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. If you would like to see a full list of Alliance members, go to this link.

Summit borrowing allows us to quickly and easily get materials to users that we do not have in our collection here at Saint Martin's.  Patrons can use this service as long as they are students, faculty, staff, or monks and have an active Saint Martin's University account.
